"The Level 3 cache is designed to handle data requests that the Level 1 and Level 2 caches fail to satisfy. Although slower than the Level 2 cache, the Level 3 cache compensates by being much larger in size. While the largest Level 2 cache at this time is only 5 MB, Level 3 caches can be as large as 45 MB! Irrespective of the actual numbers, the larger size of the Level 3 cache allows it to store a lot more data than the Level 2 cache.
