Intel is to deliver the X38 chipset by mid
September (which is now isn't it?) and will probably release the X48 by
the end of the year. HP is reducing
PC orders for Q3 and early Q4. Here's an interesting
blurb on SOI.
As process technologies continue to shrink, the semiconductor industry faces
other issues, with leakage current being a significant issue. IC substrates
usually have been made of silicon, which is not an ideal insulator since its
resistance is only 10ohm/cm so some power will be wasted when current leaks
through the silicon insulator of the transistor.
