ASRock Motherboard Highlights
Plenty of expansion opportunities here with the ASRock
AM2V890-VSTA motherboard. The floppy drive controller is at the bottom of
the motherboard, ASRock should have put it somewhere else IMHO. Note the open-ended
PCI Express x4 connector which can accommodate a PCI Express
x16 videocard. The VIA K8T890 chipset requires nothing more than a passive heatsink
cooling. |
ASRock colour coordinate the DDR2
memory slots so you will know which slots to use to enable dual channel
memory support. If you're upgrading from another Athlon64 platform, take
note of AMD's new Socket AM2 heatsink retention mechanism. |
The VIA VT8237A Southbridge does not generate much
heat, and that's why it does not need to be cooled with a heatsink.
Plan your storage purchases accordingly, there are only two Serial ATA
and two parallel IDE channels. for storage
devices. |
Moving to a socket AM2 motherboard can be an exciting change, but there are
a few things you need to be aware of when choosing the right after-market heatsink
for the new AM2 processor. That's next.
