Call Waiting Modem

There are so many of us who have yet to be blessed with the gift of 'Cable Modem'. This review should be of special interest to those who still use the traditional dial up modem. As everyone knows, the major downside to this traditional connection has always been - aside from the speed - that when the computer is online, the phone is 'offline'.

There have been a few different methods devised to combat this inconvenience in the last few years including internet call monitoring, and digital voice-mail to name just two. Today, we'll be looking at a unique solution from Actiontec. They were good enough to send us one of their Call Waiting Modems to test out a while back. After using the modem for a while now, we're finally ready to post our thoughts on how it performed.

What's unique about this particular modem? Briefly, the call waiting modem lets anyone online know if there's an incoming phone call, gives them the ability to answer or ignore it, and suspend or resume their internet usage.

Actiontec's Call Waiting Modem comes with; the 56k PCI modem, voice/fax data communications software, Manual, 6 foot telephone cable and some bonus software (Cheyenne Bitware, Hot Office, Vocal Tec Internet Phone & Rapid Reader)
