In this day and age the issue of
Internet security and filtering has become a very hot topic. There are two sides
to this issue. On one side we have the advocates for Internet control and
monitoring, and on the other side we have those who do not want to regulate or
monitor the content on the Internet. There are obviously valid points from both sides and the decision on which side to take on this issue greatly depends on what's important to you.
The truth of the matter is that there are certain people, mainly kids whom we do not want them to have unrestricted access to the Internet mainly because of the over abundance of pornographic and inappropriate material. That definitely is a very valid point. In order to address this issue there is an increasingly large market for tools to perform the duties of automatically distinguishing appropriate from inappropriate material.
On the other hand, the advocates of the free unregulated internet argue that no matter what kind of tools you have to restrict your kids access to the Internet, there are always way around them. Kids are a lot smarter these days, and they always seem to find ways around obstacles that we as adults don't even think about. Nothing can really take the place of good old fashioned values and a sense of responsibility. More on that later.
Today we have gathered four of the most popular Internet filtering software and put them to the test. They are:
The BAIR 3.2.1 Cyber Patrol 4.0 NetNanny 3.1 ClickSafe 1.0
We had to endure endless hours of porn to bring you the
results. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it :).
