Intel D810E2CB Motherboard Review
Intel D810E2CB Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
Most of us are familiar with Intel through their long and successful presence in the processor business. They have also managed to accrue a good portion of the budget/OEM market with their i810 based products. Intel is about to introduce a new motherboard based on the i810E2 chipset the D810E2CB.

Test Bed Setup and Benchmarks

All tested boards except the Intel 810E2CB were outfitted with a Voodoo5 5500 AGP. BIOS settings on each board were tweaked for maximum performance.
Intel Celeron 566MHz FC PGA (OEM)
¡¤ 128 MB PC 100 CAS 2 SDRAM
¡¤ 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP
¡¤ Western Digital 30GB ATA 66 hard drive (307AA), 5400RPM
¡¤ Orchid Nusound 3D (Aureal Vortex 1 sound card)
¡¤ Tested boards: Intel 810E2CB (Intel 810E2), DFI CS65 SC (Intel 815), Soyo 6BA+IV (Intel BX), Soyo 7VMA (VIA PM133), DFI CA64 EC (VIA Apollo Pro 133A with ATA 100 support)

All benchmarks were executed three times and the average was noted.

Business Performanc3

Under Business Winstone 99, the D810E2CB comes in last when put up against boards based upon a variety of chipsets. However, there is more to the benchmarks than the obvious numbers. It is important to note that the integrated video subsection of the D810E2CB is based purely on system memory (unified memory architecture). Therefore, effective system memory bandwidth is shared between running applications and the integrated graphics. This results in a degradation (to an extent) of performance with those tasks not related to graphics.

If a similar graphics platform were used on all tested boards, performance gaps would become much less than they already are. Nevertheless the D810E2CB, being about 10% slower compared to the fastest board ever tested here, offers quite acceptable business performance. In fact, the D810E2CB offers similar business performance to other motherboards equipped with integrated video acceleration.

With this being a pre production model, we should see performance increases once the board is made ready for retail sale.
