Benchmarks: Super Pi, Hexus piFast, SiSoft Sandra

Super Pi Source: SuperPI

SuperPI calculates the number PI to 1 Million digits in this raw number crunching benchmark. The benchmark is fairly diverse and allows the user to change the number of digits of PI that can be calculated from 16 Thousand to 32 Million. The benchmark, which uses 19 iterations in the test, is set 1 Million digits. Lower numbers are better

Super Pi completes the standard 1 million digit test slightly faster in a WindowsXP x64 Edition environment than it does in 32-bit, but it's nice to see that the overclocking results from both platforms are similar.

Hexus piFast Source: Hexus

Pifast is a small program that computes Pi to a set amount of decimal places and also display's how long it takes. Since it tells you how long it takes this then gives us a basis for charting the results giving a performance indicator for new and old technology at a glace. Lower numbers are better.

piFast is another number crunching benchmark, and here we see similar results for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Looks like a faster processor equals better performance in both WindowsXP and WindowsXP x64 Edition.

SiSoft Sandra 2005 Source: Sandra

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance.

I was certainly surprised to see the multimedia benchmark numbers. While the integer portion of the test is much lower than expected on WindowsXP x64 Edition, the floating point section is higher. CPU benchmark numbers are similar as are memory bandwidth scores. This version of SiSoft Sandra is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows OSes.
