Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H AMD 690G Motherboard Review
Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H AMD 690G Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
The Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard is based around AMD's 690G / SB600 chipsets, and although it has both DVI and analog video outputs, it regrettably lacks the HDMI jack that many other AMD690G motherboards boast.

Overclocking the AMD 690G and the BIOS

Overclocking Results:

260 mhz

if you're new to Overclocking and not sure what to do, check out these two excellent Guides for some pointers:
Overclocking the CPU and Memory
Overclocking the Videocard

The AMD 690G chipset is a good overclocker in most of the motherboards PCSTATS has tested first hand. As usual, PCSTATS will be relying on an AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ processor and a 2GB set of Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF memory. Corsair make fast memory, and these puppies are about as high end as it gets... which to be realistic is beyond the actual requirements of a microATX system.

Now, in this particular case, I think the processor will be the limiting factor as the motherboard has no multiplier adjustments. Oh well, on goes the overclocking. ;-) Starting at 200 MHz, the motherboard frequency will be increased in small 5 MHz steps.

Without tweaking the voltage, the Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard hit a top speed of 260 MHz, anything higher and it was like the system hit a magical barrier. That really burst the bubble on our overclocking fun. Pooh.

Heat wasn't an issue, I'm not sure what the problem was but going past 260 MHz was just not possible. That's not a huge deal though the Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard is intended for the entry level market, not hardcore overclockers.

A quick peek into the BIOS:

For an entry level motherboard, Foxconn sure includes a lot of memory timing adjustments! There are enough here to keep a hardcore enthusiast busy for weeks and if you like tweaking the A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard will be fun to play with for sure.

The maximum voltage that can be applied to the DDR2 memory is 2.4V and you can increase the Northbridge voltage an additional 0.6V. The Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard motherboard frequency can be adjusted between 200-500 MHz in 1 MHz increments.

Prelude to Benchmarks

With the AMD 690G being Microsoft Windows Vista ready, PCSTATS will be testing the MSI K9AG Neo2 Digital motherboard in Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Consequently there are slightly less benchmarks than we would normally have for a WindowsXP based test system because benchmark compatibility with Vista is still finding its feet.

The details of how the Foxconn A690GM2MA-RS2H motherboard test system was configured for benchmarking; the specific hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions is indicated below. In the second column are the general specs for the reference platforms this AMD 690G based motherboard is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results on the next page.
