Gigabyte GV-N285OC-2GI Geforce GTX 285 2GB Videocard Review
Gigabyte GV-N285OC-2GI Geforce GTX 285 2GB Videocard Review - PCSTATS
Everything you'd expect form a NVIDIA GT200b-based videocard is here: NVIDIA PhysX, CUDA, Hybridpower, 3-way SLI, Purevideo and Graphics Plus. Support for DirectX 10, OpenGL 2.1 are of course included as well, although NVIDIA has stated that it will be skipping DirectX 10.1 support altogether and instead go straight to DirectX 11.

Videocard Power Consumption Measurements

Here's how this Gigabyte videocard stacks up in real life against a couple different cards for power draw. PCSTATS measures total system power draw and compares that in 3D loaded (max value recorded in 3DMark06) and idle states (at Windows desktop). The power supply used in each test is an A-PFC compliant PC Power and Cooling 750W model.

The Gigabyte GV-N285OC-2GI videocard does surprisingly well in both of these power draw tests. Idle system power draw is a moderate 113W, less than we witnessed from the Radeon HD 4890 at idle. Under 3D load conditions power draw increases to 277W, still quite conservative for a flagship videocard.

The majority of spikes in the above power draw chart indicate dual videocard SLI or Crossfire test situations, modern videocards have become a lot more power efficient thanks largely to die shrinks and optimization. The Gigabyte GV-N285OC-2GI videocard runs off a GPU fabricated on the 55nm process and requires two 6-pin auxiliary PCI Express power connectors.

If a pre-overclocked videocard is overclocked even further does that make it Uberclocked? We'll see right after the jump. After all, NVIDIA took the Geforce GTX 280 and overclocked it to get the Geforce GTX 285. Gigabyte took the GTX 285 and overclocked it to get the GV-N285OC-2GI. The next logical step is for PCSTATS to take the GV-N285OC-2GI and overclock it even faster!

Oh, the excitement is killing me!
