As we can see, the Samsung SW-252B can crack the 52x
CD-R barrier as well as the 24x for CD-RW. The
only other CD-RW that can match the SW-252B's performance is the MSI CR52A-A2.
Conclusions:
Samsung certainly deliver a high speed CD-RW solution with
their SW-252B 52x24x52 drive.
With high speeds and quick access times for both data
and audio CD's, you'll certainly be pleased with the performance of the
drive. Probably the only downside to the SW-252B is its slightly elevated Data CD test CPU
utilization at certain speeds.
Even though the SW-252B is a high speed optical device,
it's just about absolutely silent. Even at full speeds all you hear is a very
low pitched hum - it was quite a bit quieter then the MSI CR52A-A2 that we
tested earlier. The drive got quite a bit warmer then any of the previous CD-ROM
type devices that we have tested so you'd better have some good case cooling.
The Samsung SW-252B is not quite available for retail sale yet so we're not
really sure how much the unit will retail for, but considering other
Samsung optical disk drives the price should be pretty competitive, making it a drive
to definitely consider next time you hit the computer store.
