The GPU cooler is a modified version of standard nVidia
GPU HSF. The actual fan of the GPU cooler is actually quite loud, in fact it's
louder then my Swiftech MC462A's stock 53CFM Sanyo Denki fan! While the sound
doesn't bother me, it's bound to bother some people especially the ones who want
a "quiet" computer. The cover of the GPU heatsink/fan forces the air through the
fins of the heatsink which in turn also blows across the BGA memory. In the case
of Gainward, they've taken the extra step and added ramsinks onto their
memory.
Gainward uses some rather fancy ramsinks on the top side
of the card to cool down the memory however on the other side of the card, the
ramsinks are rather bland. They're quite small and don't really have much
surface area. It looks more like a better then nothing approach. During testing
the larger ramsinks stayed quite cool however the ones on the back of the card
were often quite warm to the touch even at stock speeds!
