Please note, we had to changed the scale on the graph to illustrate the 52x speed the
MSI drive is capable of for CDR's. The average speed of
the drive is just under the 40x speed mark, but the end speed clearly cracks the 52x
speed marker at 52.25x. Since our test CD-RW is rated for 24x, the MSI CR52A-A2 was able to run 24x with no
problems.
Conclusions:
Yes it's true that MSI are the new kid on the Optical Disk Drive block, but other manufacturers
out there should definitely look out! As we saw in our tests the MSI
CR52A-A2 is extremely fast (yes I know it's the highest rated drive too) in reading,
writing and rewriting. Access for each different type disc varied from mediocre
to good but when you consider the drive is only $85 CDN ($60 US), all is pretty
much forgiven.
While noise does not bother me, I did notice that the
MSI CR52A-A2 was a bit louder then most other drives we test here. So much for
their AWSS. ;) The quick installation guide is a bit skimpy, and novice users
may have difficulty installing the drive. The Nero 5 instructions booklet is
also on the thin side and does not really do the burning software any
justice.
