Gespac PCISYS-59
Perhaps it was the
weather, or perhaps it was the fact that the Swiss made
Gespac PCISYS-59 was surrounded by more than a dozen shiny notebooks,
but whatever the reason this new entry into the embedded industrial computer
market wasn't getting the attention it really deserved. The
small CompactPCI processor board is designed to
operate in an industrial backplane chassis in environments where highly-reliable fanless platforms are
required. These types of CompactPCI processor boards come in a variety
of flavors, but under the fanless class, the closest rivals include 166MHz Pentium MMX
processors.
Used in telecommunications, military and medical equipment the possibilities of downtime
due to fan failure with a Crusoe platform are removed, while processing speed over previous contenders is
increased.
The PCISYS-59 assembly is
built on the compact 3U Eurocard format and connects to a backplane via standard
IEC-1076 shielded high density connector. The board runs with an twin
ethernet/USB adaptors, Asiliant Graphics w/h DVI output, 128MB of onboard SDRAM
(144-pin SODIMM expansion port also included) an EIDE port and is priced at
about $1500USD. Comparable Intel solutions from Gespac run on the order of
$2500USD.
