Nvidia were on hand with a
system based upon Chaintech components, and shared some information regarding
the new nForce2-Ultra 400 chipset which supports 400MHz AMD AthlonXP
processors. Among the handful of new chipsets we can expect to see from nVidia
include the long-awaited nForce3 Pro.
The nForce3 Pro is an AMD
Opteron chipset destined for the workstation environment only. Included in these
environments are features such as: ASF, GbE, IPv6, TCP segmentation, Raid 1,
64-Bit Windows support, SATA, and more.
The chipset is expected to come
in to flavours - the nForce3 Pro 150 (a lower end chipset) and the nForce3 Pro
250 which will be the higher end version.
All and all
I must say the short time we spent in New Orleans was informative and quite
interesting. Chaintech are certainly not as well known in North America as
companies such as ABit and Asus, but with solid performing products they should
have no problems changing that.
Chaintech Reloaded 2003 Final
Thoughts
In the near future we look
forward to testing out Chaintech's mainboards so we can give you a first hand
account of how they actually perform, so you know what to expect from this
consumer-oriented company. Given the scope of products discussed at ChainTech
Reloaded 2003 the company certainly appears to be testing the waters with many
different ideas. While items like the "Handigator" may not appeal to all users,
the other items Chaintech are including in along with their higher end Zenith
mainboard line up are bound to grab some attention.
Ultimately however, it is the
actual product's performance that will decide whether Chaintech take the path
of Albatron and garners ever increasing North American exposure, or are relegated
to the sidelines and European markets they already support. Only time will tell, but from the outset I think we can expect good things from Chaintech.
Finally, I'd just like to thank
the staff of Chaintech Reloaded 2003 for their graceful hospitality
and professionalism during the course of the event.
