Well two things, most importantly with this slot cooler exhausting air, an intake
of fresh cool air is very important. Case temp drops with an intake fan
somewhere in the case, it's as simple as that. Secondly, in our tests, we
found that the position the slot fan was in had an affect on its ability to
cool the BGA chipset. The result being, the best possible position to have the
slot fan occupy is one slot away from the AGP card. That extra bit of room
seemed to help airflow, and in our test system kept the case a mear 5 degrees
warmer then room temp. That's a little bit more then a 10 (C) drop in case
temp. Definitely well worth it for that alone.
The Super Duper Slot Fan's affect on BGA chipsets - the heart of any video card - was less dramatic, in our
tests the best temp improvement was about 4 degrees. However, when you consider the Super Duper
Slot Fan's ability to pull down case temp, and keep it down, the fringe benefits
on the AGP cooling make it pretty worth while. That, and if you think of
it as a case fan, it's damn quiet!
