MSI 648 MAX-F Motherboard Review
MSI 648 MAX-F Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
I was really excited about sitting down and testing this SiS 648 based motherboard. From what I've read the SiS 648 chipset is supposed to be a full-blown i850E/RDRAM killer.

SysMark2002 is more of an extension of SysMark2001 rather then a whole new benchmark. The applications used during testing have been updated and most importantly for AMD users, the new SysMark2002 uses the Windows Media Encoder 7.1 which supports the AthlonXP's SSE instructions.

BapCo SysMark 2002 Benchmark Results
Internet Content (FSB/Memory) Sysmarks Ranking
1. 648 MAX - 133/400 290
2. 648 MAX - 143/400 304

Office Productivity (FSB/Memory)

1 648 MAX - 133/400 137
2. 648 MAX - 143/400 145

Apparently SysMark2002 was written with P4's in mind, optimizing software to take advantage of the extra bandwidth. Either way the MSI 648 MAX does pretty well here even when not overclocked.

Content Creation Winstone 2001 keeps multiple applications open at once and switches among those applications. Content Creation Winstone 2001's activities focus on what we call "hot spots," periods of activity that make your PC really work--the times where you're likely to see an hourglass or a progress bar.

Business Winstone is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running today's Windows-based 32-bit applications on Windows 98 ME, Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 or later), Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP which runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete those activities to produce its performance scores.

Winstone 2001 Benchmark Results
Content Creation (FSB/Memory) Scores Ranking
1. 648 MAX - 133/400 74.3
2. 648 MAX - 143/400 77.6

Business Winstone (FSB/Memory)

1 648 MAX - 133/400 50.7
2. 648 MAX - 143/400 53.7

In general, P4 based systems don't do as well in the older Winstone 2001 benchmarks because they don't have any code written for P4's. Still, the motherboard does do pretty well for a P4 board.
