As you
all know I'm an impatient overclocker, that
should be fairly obvious from my previous work. The first setting I tried with
the memory was 200 MHz FSB with the most aggressive memory timings. Was this too
ambitious? Apparently not, the memory POSTed and booted into Windows no problems!
Stability was not the best but upping the voltage to 2.7V solved that problem.
Hmm, not bad so far eh?
The next speed I tried was 210 MHz and again
absolutely no problems! Wow, I was very impressed to say the least! After
checking stability, I bumped the FSB to 215 MHz. Here we ran into a few
problems, the system would POST but it would BSOD while loading WindowsXP. I
raised the voltage to 2.8V and the stability problems went away.
I then bumped the FSB to 220 MHz,
system would POST and load Windows, but any 3D intensive application would crash back
to desktop (which indicated memory is running too fast). No matter what voltage I gave
the memory (up to 3.2V on the Epox), nothing would stabilize it. P
laying with the motherboard and memory I ended up
with an amazing 219 MHz FSB with most aggressive memory timings at a voltage of
2.8V!!! I think my search for memory is over. =)
Changing the memory timings from most aggressive to
most conservative allowed me to up the FSB to an insane high of 231 MHz
FSB!
On a side note, the memory did
not appear to like high voltages! It had a hard time even POSTing at 215
MHz FSB when 3.2V was applied to the DIMM.
