AquaMark is
another DirectX 8 benchmark. Using vertex shaders, any card that is DirectX8
compatible will not just have a huge speed boost, the image will also look
better. Default test has 24 MB worth of textures.
Like we saw
in 3DMark2001SE, here we're pretty much all CPU limited, that's the only reason
why the GeForce4 can keep up with the Radeon 9700 Pro.
As the
resolution is turned up, the GeForce4 starts to lag behind. It's interesting to
see the Crucial Radeon 9700 Pro at stock outperform the ATi Radeon 9700 Pro even
though they're the same speed. The Crucial does use a newer revision of the R300
core.
