The FinePix F402 draws power from a NP-40 Lithium Ion Battery
pack (3.7V 710mAh) that is literally about the size of a compact flash module.
Measuring 8mm x 40mm x 35mm (HxLxW) in
size, the battery pack is recharged inside the camera with the aid of an
external AC adaptor. The AC adaptor plugs into the side of the FinePix
F402, or the docking station, so you can recharge the camera fairly easily on
the road or at home. Charge time is about 2 hours.
According
to Fujifilm, the camera is capable of around 140 shots on a freshly charged
battery with the LCD display on, and 400 shots with it
off. The LCD doesn't draw that much current, but the back light is a big
hog, so if you're like me and perfer to frame shots with the LCD there is a
little trick you can use to make the camera last a little longer. Turn down the brightness on the LCD back light as much as possible (it should still
be visible, and useable) for your environment, and that should help save some electricity.
The LCD Viewfinder
There are probably about a dozen menu screens for the
F402 so we're not going to show them all here. Since the quality of the 1.5" LCD
viewfinder is really nice I think it is worth more than a
passing mention.
Compared to other cameras we have used from Fujifilm in
the past it is clear that they are continuing to upgrade their cameras with
better LCD displays as time passes. We've laid out a few screen shots of
the menu screens you'll encounter most when taking pictures. Notice how there is no visible pixelization of
the screen.
Frames can be displayed on the LCD by switching over
to the playback setting. Images can then be view and deleted or cropped as
necessary to save file space on the go.
