Overclocking and Benchmarks

We've had a ton of luck and fun overclocking Albatron videocards in the past and were hoping that we'd get some nice results from the budget FX 5200 Ultra as well. The Albatron FX 5200 Ultra is clocked by default at 325 MHz core and 600 MHz memory.

Built on the larger 0.15 micron manufacturing, I was pretty sure the core was near its limit. Still, I proceeded to raise the core speed as high as I could.

The 350 MHz mark came and went and I could still push the card higher. In the end were were able to run the core at a healthy 358 MHz mark. Would the memory overclock as well?

Actually right from the beginning I knew that the memory would be a good overclocker, heck it's using 2.8ns Hynix DRAM! Instead of being a good overclocker I immediately raised the memory speed to 700 MHz and the card ran flawlessly. The memory did 710 MHz without crying but unfortunately anything higher then 712 MHz and artifact tester would start registering artifacts. There were no visible artifacts until we hit 717 MHz but for benchmarking we ran at 712 MHz.

358 MHz core and 712 MHz memory, totally awesome for a budget videocard!!! As you'll see this provides a healthy boost to benchmarks.
