Unreal
Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award
winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound
and game play are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs
the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a
DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.
Only 8x
AA degrades performance significantly, everything else provides perfectly
playable framerates!
The Asus
V9999GE
I feel old for saying this... but
upgrading a PC when I was a kid was a lot easier. Back then, if you wanted
faster gaming performance you simply added more memory, or upgraded to a faster
processor.
These days upgrading a PC is much different, and the Asus V9999
Gamers Edition videocard PCstats tested in this review is certainly not cheap,
but it is damn fast!
With a retail price of $546 CDN ($417 US), the Asus V9999GE is a
major upgrade, and on the plus side it does come with a free USB web cam for
Asus Game Face, and three nice bundled games. Because the card supports S-Video
output, Asus also includes a nice long S-Video to Composite cable and DVI to
analog converter. Whether you use Asus's GameFace software or not, it's nice to
find a webcam that can be used by itself.
Performance of the Asus V9999GE videocard was excellent
for the most part, but that is to be expected considering it's using a GeForce
6800 GPU. ;-) In almost all benchmarks, the V9999GE fought it out for top spot
with the Asus AX800XT/TVD and Albatron GeForce 6800GT. Both are both officially
higher end cards. So if you're looking for a high end video card for your
system, the Asus V9999GE certainly has a lot to offer, and it is damn fast! Recommended.
