It's great to see how individual memory stacks up
against one another under stock configuration, but we're also going to show how
they stack up to each other when overclocked. The results are listed below for
some of the recent memory to cross our test bench. The higher the speed, the
better.
On the
AMD test platform the Corsair TwinX1024-4400C25PT runs in the middle of the
pack. And to answer that question Alex; "What is the fastest overclocked memory on the Intel platform to date?" TwinX1024-4400C25PT is correct!
Good memory for all platforms
With a mind numbing array of model numbers, memory speeds and
CAS latencies, it's often very confusing to know what DDR is the
best DDR at any one moment. The TwinX1024-4400C25PT DDR from Corsair is a new
product, and it is damn fast. It is the fastest overclocking DDR PCSTATS has
tested on an Intel system to date, though I'm sure that record will eventually be
broken.
These days
DDR memory modules are designed for specific platforms, either AMD or Intel, and
which memory works well in system A often doesn't do as well in system B. This is the rule of
thumb, but as you have just seen in the benchmarks, Corsair's TwinX1024-4400C25PT
RAM runs just fine on both AMD and Intel DDR platforms. Built with Samsung's
versatile "TCCD" DRAM, the two 512MB Corsair TwinX1024-4400C25PT DIMMs are
officially rated to run up to 275 MHz with 2.5-4-4-8 memory timings, at 2.75V. To
be realistic, those are not the greatest timings in the world, but at 200 MHz things can
be tightened up. This is important for AthlonXP/64 systems, and if you
loosen them up, they run can run wickedly fast on Intel computers!
In terms of performance, at 200 MHz (on the AMD test
system) the Corsair
TwinX1024-4400C25PT RAM performed just as fast as previously tested low
latency memory like Mushkin's PC3200 V2 LII, and Corsair TwinX3200XL
DIMMs. When things were loosened up on the Intel rig, the
TwinX1024-4400C25PT also ran with the best of them, rising to the top
of PCSTATS' maximum overclocking speeds results list. With a retail price of $330 CDN ($269 US), Corsair's TwinX1024-4400C25PT DDR is well
priced and an even better value when you consider it runs nicely on Intel and
AMD PCs!
