Doom 3 is
the most advanced OpenGL game to date. It takes advantage of the latest
videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute
limits. At its highest setting, Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark
which means even tomorrow's videocards will have a hard time running everything.
The frame rates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is
wasted. Each test is run three times and with the third run being
recorded.

At lower resolutions, Doom 3 is perfectly playable.
Obviously, the Albatron PC6600LEQ is designed for the casual gamer.
Budget gaming at its best?
Today's gamers expect their eye candy, DirectX 9.0C
features, and good frame rates from a mainstream videocard. Between
the GeForce 6200 and Geforce 6600 there used to be a large gap in
performance (and price), but that issue has been remedied with the introduction
of the nVidia GeForce 6600LE GPU. The new 6600LE GPU cards are faster than
the Geforce 6200 (sometimes by quite a bit) but are still near the very
affordable $100 US price point.
With a
retail price of $112 CDN ($95 US), the Albatron PC6600LEQ is the perfect videocard for the
casual gamer. The card is backed up by 256MB of 400 MHz DDR memory and features
dual monitor support as well as TV-Output. Best of all, if you are allergic to
noise, the Albatron PC6600LEQ is fanless. Despite the card's "budget"
appearence, its 400 MHz RAMDAC means the Albatron PC6600LEQ can be used with the
largest CRT/LCD monitors out there thanks to its 2048x1536 @ 85 Hz resolution
support.
The videocard itself is nothing special to look at, but
its performance is pretty decent considering the price. In virtually all the
benchmarks we ran, the Albatron PC6600LEQ scored higher than a GeForce 6200TC
based videocard (like it should) and slightly behind that of a standard
GeForce 6600. When you factor in overclocking, the Albatron PC6600LEQ did even
better and routinely performed at the same point as a stock GeForce 6600
videocard.
If you are a casual gamer and are in the market for an
affordable but decent performing videocard, the Albatron PC6600LEQ is
definitely worth consideration.
