Quad SLI videocard combinations?
|
While it would be pretty cool to run dual SLI sets on the Gigabyte
GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal motherboard, the configuration pictured to the left
is NOT possible.
If the first set of SLI'd videocards is removed, the bottom set of
cards will operate in SLI with 8 PCI Express lanes each. Conversely, if the
bottom set of SLI cards are removed, the top set will operate in SLI with
8 PCI Express lanes each. |
|
Installing the SLI videocards into the
center two blue PCI Express x16 slots will allow you to run each videocard
with a full 16 PCI Express lanes devoted to it, in SLI. This is the best
possible configuration the Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal motherboard can
offer. |
|
The last variation on the the multi-videocard theme is to install four
PCI Express x16 videocards into the Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal
motherboard. In this example, it is not possible to run any of the
videocards in SLI, and each graphics card will receive 8 PCI Express
lanes.
While SLI is not feasible in this configuration due to driver
limitations, the Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal motherboard will make it
possible for you to connect up to eight DVI monitors to your
computer! |
At the moment four way SLI is
not a possibility, but exceptions are starting to pop up. When we
asked nVIDIA directly about the possibility of more advanced forms of SLI, it would
not officially comment and would only discuss the Dell Renegade. With the Dell
Renegade and the Asus dual GeForce 7800GT videocard able to operate in SLI, the
door for more than dual GPU SLI has at least been opened...
Next up, overclocking and the benchmark results.
