Max OC Chart and Conclusion
It's
great to see how individual memory stacks up against
the competition under stock configurations, but we're also going to show how
it compares when overclocked. With performance in mind, we're going to compare
the maximum overclocked results of the various DDR-2 memory modules PCSTATS has tested
in the past which are listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked
fast doesn't mean it's the best thing for a computer. Timings are also
important, and getting the right ratio of both is the real key to performance
based overclocking!
The Crucial Ballistix
PC2-6400 2GB memory kit is definitely very fast.... it comes in with the top
spot because of its tight 4-4-4-12 memory timings and 1040MHz overclocked speed!
What happens if we loosening up the CAS
Latency timings to 5-5-5-15? The Crucial PC2-6400 DDR-2 memory ties first place with
two other modules from Corsair, the PC2-6400 C4 and PC2-8500 C5 units.
Crucial's Ballistix package - Tuned for Success?
Crucial's new 2GB Ballistix PC2-6400 dual channel DDR2 memory kit is exactly
what the doctor ordered, whether you're someone looking for a high end system or
a hardcore enthusiast aiming for stratospheric overclocking results.
Crucial does one better than JEDEC's DDR2-800 specification and its Ballistix
PC2-6400 memory has memory timings rated at 4-4-4-12 at stock speeds. If you
have a wild side, Crucial also warrants the memory up to 2.2V. That should let
motivated users push this memory to the max.
In terms of performance the 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 DDR2 memory kit is in very good company. It was just as quick as Corsair's Twin2X2048-6400C4 set and just a hair slower than the Corsair Twin2X2048-6400C3. Gamers will definitely have a difficult time telling each of these three different memory modules apart, the frame rates are just too close...
The Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 DDR2 memory really
impressed with its overclocking abilities! With 4-4-4-12 timings, the memory hit
a very nice 1060 MHz clock speed. Loosening up the timings allowed it to break
the 1100 MHz mark. With a retail price of $473 CDN ($418 US. £227GBP) for this 2GB kit of Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 DDR2 memory, you're spending a lot for a set of 1024MB DDR2-800 memory modules with 4-4-4-12 timings, but it's on par with other enthusiast grade memory out there. If you want something that offers no fuss, this set of Crucial memory should definitely be an option!
