OC Chart and Conclusions
It's great to
see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock
configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked.
With performance in mind, we're going to compare the maximum overclocked results
of the various DDR-2 memory modules PCSTATS has tested in the past which are
listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked fast doesn't mean it's
the best thing for a computer. Timings are also important, and getting the right
ratio of both is the real key to performance based overclocking!
The SyncMax
Express PC2-6400 memory doesn't quite crack the DDR2-1000 mark, but comes very close
with relatively tight timings! Moving onto 5-5-5-15 timings allows it to overclock as high as 1064MHz in
our test set up.
Mainstream DDR-2 for the Masses?
There's a general rule of thumb that a PC can never have
enough memory, and for the most part this is true. When a 1GB pair of PC2-6400
DDR-II memory can be had for as little as $170 CDN ($150US, £80GBP), life is
pretty sweet.
The SyncMAX PC2-6400 Express modules that passed through
the PCSTATS test labs today are
entirely great for mainstream PC systems. At stock speeds the memory performed at the same
pace as enthusiast class DDR2-800 DIMMs; benchmarking at par for workstation style tasks like email, word processing
and spreadsheets.
The SyncMAX PC2-6400 Express handled the 3D applications well, but for the most part
the games we tested this memory with do not require a huge pool of
bandwidth. There is a one year warranty on these memory parts from the manufacturer
and a tech support phone line if you encounter difficulties, which is unlikely.
This is mainstream DDR-II
800 memory, good for moderate overclocking at best, and better still as good
value memory for mainstream consumer PC systems that just need an extra 1GB of DDRII.
The SyncMAX
name might not be as recognizable as say Corsair, Mushkin or OCZ but
when it comes to value and mainstream memory products, SyncMAX continues to prove itself.
