Overclocking Results: |

The Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC videocard already comes
preoverclocked from the factory. At stock the GeForce 8800GTS 320MB speeds should be
500 MHz core, 1600 MHz memory. The Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC comes clocked at 575
MHz core and 1800 MHz memory, making this one of the fastest GeForce 8800GTS
320MB videocards on the market out of the box - and equal
in speed to a Geforce 8800GTX.
Starting with the core first, nVidia nTune allowed us to adjust
the clock speed in ~7 MHz increments. The GeForce 8800GTS core easily cracked
the 600 MHz, that's already a 100 MHz improvement from what the 8800GTS is
supposed to be clocked at!
The maximum speed we were able to run the Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC core at
was 650 MHz, anything higher and nTune would complain about the core
failing its internal test. A speed of 650 MHz from a already highly overclocked
GeForce 8800GTS is pretty great. Especially considering the core is supposed to run
at 500 MHz according to nVIDIA.
Next up was the 320MB of GDDR3 memory, clocked at 1800
MHz by default it's already 200 MHz quicker than a stock GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
videocard. Starting from there and increasing the clock speed in ~10 MHz steps,
the memory overclocking began.
The Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC memory had no problems
soaring past 1900 MHz and was even able to hit a full 2000 MHz! I have a feeling
that the memory had more in it, but nTune wouldn't let us proceed further. If
you're really adventurous, you can use RivaTuner to kill the internal driver
test. ;-)
The core and memory had no problems running at their respective
maximum speeds and as you'll see overclocking does improve performance nicely over
stock figures (which are already impressive in their own right).
Prelude to
Benchmarks
The details of how the Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC test system
was configured for benchmarking; the specific hardware, software drivers, operating
system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column
are the general specs for the reference platforms this nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS
320MB based videocard is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look
over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual
benchmark results on the next page.
