Overclocking the FlexXLC Memory

Overclocking Results:
4-4-4-12 5-5-5-18
memory speed:

1066 MHz

1220 MHz

If you're new to Overclocking and not sure what to do, check out these two excellent Guides for some pointers:
Overclocking the CPU and Memory
Overclocking the Videocard

There's no doubt if you're getting yourself a 2GB set of OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition memory you're going to overclock. Without further delay here is how the OCZ memory handled in PCSTATS famous overclocking tests...

The OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC memory was installed into an ECS PN2 SLI+ motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 processor was used to test. Please note that we did not have a watercooling loop available, so the memory was air cooled.

Starting at 800 MHz, and with 4-4-4-12 memory timings, the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC DDR2 memory speed was increased 20 MHz increments. OCZ's PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition memory handled overclocking pretty well, and rose easily to 860 MHz before the DDR2 voltage had to be increased from 1.8V to 1.9V. To reach 940 MHz the memory voltage had to be increased yet again, this time to 2.0V.

For the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition memory to break the 1000 MHz mark, with 4-4-4-4-12 CAS latency timings, the memory voltage had to be increased to 2.2V. With tight timings the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC memory reached a maximum speed of 1066 MHz. A good result for sure, but we've seen other comparable DDR2 memory go higher.

Loosening the timings to 5-5-5-18, we increased the memory speed from 1066 MHz. The OCZ FlexXLC Edition memory had no problems cracking 1100 MHz, but 1160 MHz needed a slight voltage bump, this time to 2.3V.

Continuing, PCSTATS was able to overclock the OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition memory to a maximum speed of 1220 MHz. Anything higher and the memory would start giving the system errors. Still 1220 MHz is a pretty decent speed, and if you're overclocking everything else in your system you'll see a nice benefit.

Prelude to Benchmarks

The details of how the 2GB OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition memory test system was configured for benchmarking, including the specific hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column are the general specs for the reference platforms this pair of PC2-9200 DDR-2 memory is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results.
