Foxconn Mars Intel P35 Express Motherboard Review
Foxconn Mars Intel P35 Express Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
The Foxconn MARS motherboard certainly looks like a great enthusiast friendly motherboard, particularly because it's based on Intel's hot P35 Express and ICH9R chipsets.

The Foxconn MARS motherboard highlights

There are a lot of expansion options available with the Foxconn MARS motherboard. There are two PCI Express x1 slots for higher bandwidth devices and three 32 bit PCI slots for legacy devices. The red PCI Express x16 slot is the primary graphics slot while the blue is the secondary. The Blue PCI Express x16 slot operates internally at PCI Express x4 speeds and you can also use it for non-videocard devices. If you're going to be running two videocards, connect the auxiliary power connector.

The bottom right hand corner of the Foxconn MARS motherboard is very busy; three USB 2.0 headers, six Serial ATA II slots, the front panel I/O header, the Power/Reset/Clear CMOS buttons and CMOS battery.

There are four DDR2 memory slots on the Foxconn MARS motherboard, install the DDR2 memory in alternating slots to enable dual channel configuration. The motherboard is compatible with DDR2-667/800/1066 MHz memory. Foxconn places the main ATX, floppy and IDE channel to the right of the DIMM slot which helps keep the thick cables away from the other system devices.

There is plenty of space around the Intel LGA775 CPU socket for big after market Intel heatsinks, water blocks or whatever your heart desires. The Foxconn MARS natively runs with an eight pin ATX12V connector but if your power supply only supports the older 4 pin standard, that's okay.

The Intel P35 Express Northbridge and ICH9R Southbridge generate a fair amount of heat, and as you can see Foxconn equip the MARS with an elaborate heat pipe based cooling solution dubbed "Cool Pipe." Heat from the Southbridge is conducted to the large Northbridge heatsink, then to the copper MOSFET heatsinks. The Northbridge heatsink is equipped with a 40mm fan to help keep the core logic running cool.
