Overclocking is alive and well! PCSTATS has all the details
you need to see at a glance to know how the various videocards tested perform
relative to each other. The chart we've compiled below lists the highest
overclocked core and memory clock speeds we were able to achieve while
maintaining 100% stability. Results are grouped by GPU class, and ranked by
highest memory overclock to lowest.
The
Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN Geforce 9600GT videocard ships from the factory with
stock settings, but as you can see it still overclocks just as well as the a
pre-overclocked 9600GT from Palit. PCSTATS was able to overclock the GDDR3
memory to 2200MHz and nVidia 9600GT processor to a stable 775MHz!
Reference GeForce 9600GT:
Affordable and pretty powerful
By all accounts the Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN Geforce
9600GT is a big step up from the Geforce 8600GT it replaces. Mainstream users on
a budget (and who isn't on a budget this year?) should find this DirectX10
videocard more than capable for moderate to heavy gaming. With a retail price of
$189 CDN ($190 USD, £110 GBP), it's nice
to knw the Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN Geforce 9600GT doesn't have a price premium,
but still overclocks well. In the PCSTATS lab we overclocked it to 775/2200MHz
GPU/memory.
With this card
you also get SM4.0 and HDCP compliance.
A lot of people automatically assume reference heatsinks
aren't up to snuff, but in our tests we found the heatsink nVidia ships with its
reference Geforce 9600GTs to be more than satisfactory. Noise wasn't too much of
an issue, but the fan was audible when the videocard under heavy 3D load.
Compared to the dual slot Palit 9600GT Sonic, we prefer the single slot nVidia
reference heatsink by far.
There were some obvious omissions with the Biostar
V903GT52-NV1AN videocard package. The lack of an HDMI-to-DVI adaptor ranks high
on our list, and with it should have been included a 2-pin SP/DIF audio jumper
cable.
With the amount of media being digitized and stored on the PC nowadays, there
is no sense in picking up a videocard if you cannot output video to a nearby
television or wide screen HDTV easily. The Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN does at least
come with Component Output breakout cable, we just wish Biostar had gone that
extra mile and included the HDMI adaptor too.
In any case, the Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN Geforce 9600GT
is a great single slot mainstream videocard with overclocking potential at its
feet. If you have a modest budget but demand good game scores, check out what
the Biostar V903GT52-NV1AN 9600GT has to offer.
