The Intel P45 Express chipset is an overclocking
friendly core logic so we're excited to see how far the ECS P45T-A will go!
As usual, PCSTATS dropped in a 45nm 1333MHz FSB Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
processor and a 2GB set of Corsair's DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF
memory, then powered the black beauty up. The Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU has more
headroom than the Core 2 Duo E6750 PCSTATS previously relied on, in case you
wondered.
Before overclocking began
the CPU clock multiplier was lowered to 6x, and the memory set to run
at 1:1. Starting at 333 MHz FSB the speed was increased in 5 MHz
jumps.
Overclocking went along quite smoothly between 333MHz FSB
to 400MHz, and up to 425 MHz easily booted into Windows Vista without a hitch.
As the clock speed reached 450MHz the system started to crash while loading into
Vista, so we tried upping the CPU/memory voltage a little.
The options in the ECS P45T-A BIOS are limited, so one we got the
P45T-A system loading into Vista at 435MHz FSB we decided to call it a day.
This motherboard really isn't built to be a massive overclocker, so we're not surprised by the uninspiring overclock
here. Although with a little tweaking effort and some diligence you could probably push things further...
BIOS Tweaking Tools The BIOS controls
how the motherboard communicates with all the peripherals connected to it, and
is a crucial component for any good well rounded motherboard. PCSTATS is
only going to highlight the tweaking features so you'll know what to expect.
ECS gives you full multiplier access (as
much as Intel allows). The FSB can be adjusted between 333-750 MHz in 1
MHz increments and there are a few memory dividers to pick from.
The board has limited voltage controls, just CPU and memory. The CPU can be given
an extra 328mV if needed..
Prelude to Benchmarks
The
details of how the ECS P45T-A motherboard test system was configured for
benchmarking, including the specific hardware, software drivers, operating
system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column are the
general specs for the reference platforms this Intel P45 Express based system is
to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system
configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results.
