One of the nicer of Samsung LCD monitors is their
adjustability. Samsung equips almost ever LCD it sells with the same fully
adjustable stand, called a HAS
stand. It allows the screen to tilt backward 25°
and forward
5°, rise up 80mm
and pivot to the left or right 180degrees. This particular stand incorporates 90 degree
screen rotation, so the 2243BW can be turned from a 22" wide screen to a 22" tall
screen in a few seconds. Little effort is required to make most adjustments.
The extreme
range of adjustment possible with the Samsung 2243BW's stand are illustrated below.
Vertical height adjustment of 80mm.
The 22" wide screen tilts 25° back, 5°
forward. Given the rather poor 160° vertical viewing angles we
found ourselves making this adjustment quite often
to get the best visual picture.
The 22" panel also rotates from a landscape
view into portrait. The supplied MagicRotation software facilitates adjusting the
screen image to match panel orientation. The 2243BW monitor rests on a circular stand that
gives it good stability, and also hides a lazy-suzan. Samsung's 2243BW screen won't rotate around like the Exorcist endlessly, just 360°. Rubber
grips on the base ensure the stand doesn't slide around and mar the desktop.
Software and image quality tests are up next.
