Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter
developed by Crytek. Crysis uses Microsoft's new API, DirectX 10 for graphics
rendering, and includes the new engine—the CryEngine 2—that is the successor to
Far Cry's CryEngine. CryEngine 2 is among the first engines to use the DirectX
10 framework of Windows Vista, but can also run using DirectX 9, both on Vista
and Windows XP.

Crysis,
like most games, is designed for dual-core threading, and here the Phenom II X4
955 BE processor just isn't efficient in clock-for-clock performance to win
against the Core i7 920 processor. That being said, it's scores are nothing to
sneeze at, being no more than about 10-17FPS behind the Core i7.

FEAR is
Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features.
With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a
crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to
follow.

In FEAR the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition and the Intel
chips are incredibly close at lower resolutions, although at 1024x768 the Core
i7 and the 955BE switch places.
That's a lot of benchmarks to consider for a very simple
question - is the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition processor good? Comparing
all these numbers can be pretty daunting, but don't panic PCSTATS has the plain
answer next...
