Looks like the 32MB of onboard cache makes a
big difference in the eyes of PCMark Vantage. The Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS hard drive can boost Media Center performance when paired up in RAID 0 quite nicely. The Gaming test seems to prefer the RAID 1 set up though.
1TB of Sweet Sweet Drive
Space
The read, write and seek times of the
1TB Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS hard drive are quick. The
WD1001FLAS is equipped with only a Serial ATA power connector, so if
you power supply lacks SATA power connectors you'll need to pick up some
SATA adaptors.
Hard drives are the fundamental building
blocks of any modern PC and storage requirements show no sign of letting up. If you're
building a PC today, a 1TB hard drive is the minimum we'd
recommend.
Not because the operating system actually
requires that much space, and not because you're likely to install that much
software. No, we recommend that much storage space because of media; music,
movies, photos and games. With the Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS
hard drive PCSTATS has presented three usage scenario's so you can see what kind
of performance can be expected from it, alone, in RAID 0 and RAID
1.
Whatever you choose to configure, the Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS is a worthwhile hard drive to
consider.
