The SD Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive scores 196M/s Read &
173.5MB/s Write in the 100MB Sequential test of CrystalDiskMark.
The test results peak at 199MB/s Read in the 1000MB and 4000MB
tests. Write test results peak at 186.8MB/s in the 1000MB test. These results
surpass SD's advertised capabilities for this 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive, which
are based on the 100MB test result.

The AS SSD benchmark determines the performance of Solid State Drives (SSD). The tool contains six synthetic and three copy tests.
In AS SSD we see similarly quick results from the Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive. It achieves
a score of 179MB/s Read / 175MB/s Write in the sequential test. These results are
in line with the manufacturers advertised capabilities.

Sandra
is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and
individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and
may not represent real world performance. Higher numbers represent better
performance.

The Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 peaks out at 188MB/s
(read) and 159MB/s (write) in the 256MB test of Sandra 2012. By comparison, the Patriot
Supersonic brings up the rear in each test even though both
flash drives are USB 3.0 and 64GB in capacity.
8.5GB Single File Time Transfer
Test |
|
|
For this
test a single 8.5GB, high definition 1080p .MKV movie
file is copied from a Western Digital Raptor WD740 system disk to the removable storage
device, then from the removable storage device to the system disk. Teracopy is
used to monitor transfer times and speeds. While this test is influenced by the
system disk SATA controller, it provides a straightforward real world indication of sustained transfer
rates. Higher transfer speeds and lower transfer times are best. Speed and time are monitored with
TeraCopy.

The single large file
time transfer test is a sign of the times; how long must
you wait to share a HD 1080p 8.5GB MKV movie with a friend? I'm sure there
are more technical ways of approaching removable storage device timed file transfers,
but this is practical and fun....so here it is.
SanDisk's Extreme 64GB
USB 3.0 drive was tested on both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports so
you can see how it stacks up to native USB 2.0 thumb drives
like the 64GB Supertalent Luxio. According to TeraCopy, the 8.5GB file was copied to
the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive from the host computer in 2:54 (48MB/s)
via the USB 3.0 port, 4:44 (29MB/s) via the USB 2.0.

Conclusions: Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 - Very
Fast Flash Drive
A
good 64GB USB 3.0 memory stick shouldn't require much explaining. Plug it
in, copy your files back and forth and carry your data any where - the
quicker, the better. With a demonstrated peak sequential read speed of
199MB/s and write speed of 186MB/s in the 1,000MB CrystalDiskMark test, SanDisk's Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash
drive surpasses its advertised speeds.
Built apparently on SSD
class NAND flash, the Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 demonstrated itself to be quicker
than previous USB 3.0 flash drives PCSTATS tested, by a good margin in
fact.
If you've been sitting on the fence about upgrading your collection
of 1GB, 4GB and 16GB USB thumb drives, now is certainly the time to take
the leap in to USB 3.0. At cost of about $1.33 per GB of storage, or $85USD
for the 64GB flash drive, the SanDisk Extreme (model: SDCZ80-064G) is an economical way
to move a massive amount of data around with a single USB device. With USB
3.0 speeds running at a theoretical 4.8Gbit/s, that means an 8GB file will transfer
before you get tired of waiting! Conventional USB 2.0 devices are much
slower.
The USB 3.0 interface does require a motherboard or laptop with
a USB 3.0 port to take full advantage of the speed increase, of course. Most desktop
motherboards introduced since 2010 support USB 3.0 ports, ditto for notebooks. To sum up,
the SanDisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive is without a doubt the fastest
USB thumb drive PCSTATS has tested to date! Recommended.
