A
home theatre PC can play every media format so long as the right software is loaded
(read - VLC). A self contained media PCs like the Seagate Freeagent GoFlexTV
HD is very versatile in the range of supported media formats it can read,
with a clear emphasis on the most popular video and music file formats. It is
however, limited to the media formats the manufacturer approves.
Video is arguably most crucial
media format here; thankfully the Seagate GoFlex TV HD offers full support for .MKV, .AVI, .MOV,
.WMV, .MPEG and .ISO video formats. Subtitle containers like .SRT and .SUB are also
supported.
The complete list of supported video file formats (at the time of this review) are listed
below.
Supported Image Formats
Images are limited to just five of the most popular file types: .JPG/JPEG, .GIF, .BMP,
.TIFF and .PNG.
Supported Music Formats
The
Seagate GoFlexTV HD hits off all popular digital music formats starting with .MP3. The
device is smart enough to handle music playlists in .M3U and .PLS formats. Other audio
formats supported are: .AAC, .MP3, .RA, . WAV, .ASF, .MP4, .RM, .WMA, .FLAC,
.OGG, .RMVB.
