As 19"
monitors go, the 95P ranks in at the high to middle ground. It
is by no means the best monitor out there because the front of
the display is still fairly rounded. In fact this about the only real objection I
have. Additionally the anti-reflective coating gives any reflections a blue-purple discoloration which can become a
bit annoying if there are many points of reflection to deal with. Don't
misunderstand me, the tube is only slightly curved in the front, but compared to
the ADI E66, it's significantly more round. One light in
the background and you have that annoying blue-purple reflection in
the screen.
If this is of no
importance to you, or you angle your monitor smartly away from big windows with
bright skies behind them than I can highly recommend the
95P. For magnet freaks out there the manual degauss is
a lifesaver.
As far as the Samtron brand name goes they appear to
produce high quality products. Mind you, a 19" monitor would
probably be the last place they would allow any cost-cutting to slip through. So
while this might not have the clout of a
Sony nameplate, the Samtron brand appears to be quite long lived
and durable.
Lastly, and most importantly is that the screen sharpness holds true through a variety of settings, to
provide a clear and accurate picture. So all in all the Samtron 95P doesn't quite beat out the current champion ADI E66 in my
opinion, but is still a very fine monitor in its own right. Definitely worth getting if you are in the market for a new 19" screen to play Quake III on or just use for work.
