No real surprises here. Results are very close to each other. Even in the High-End Disk Winmark the seemingly high score for ATA-66 really translates to 8.7 Mb/sec vs 8.1 Mb/sec for ATA-33. The disk winmarks in Winbench are measured in thousands of bytes. Again, real world performance would not be affected greatly by these numbers.
As you can see, ATA-66 is generally more CPU intensive than ATA-33, but again the differences are nothing to write home to mom about.
During this review I compared the Western Digital Caviar ATA-66 5400 rpm drive, against my IBM Deskstar ATA-33 7200 rpm drive. To my surprise the Caviar spanked my drive in almost every benchmark. But the Caviar didn't come out ahead because it's simply an ATA-66 drive. It beat it because it's a better drive all around utilizing newer better technology. Of course, the IBM Deskstar is not the fastest 7200 rpm ATA-33 hard drive. I'm sure a speedy ATA-33 7200 rpm drive would give this Caviar a run for its money.
