inally we get to jump on the bandwagon with the biggest of the bad-ass gamers video cards on the market today. Our little gem came straight from the gal's over at Elsa. 77% Rating:
Granted, with the inception of the
NV10 chipset, or as we know and love it the GeForce, we had pipe dreams of
screaming fast ungodly frame rates with all the goodies turned on for eye candy
we could. While the above marks show you can crank up the neat stuff for
enjoyment and still get playable fps rates, sure they are not what we all
expected when the white papers and press releases hit the open. Think of it this
way, how many products that are hyped prior to release actually perform to the
initial numbers? (Remember RAMBUS?) The deal is, given the numbers above I would
say it still rocks. I mean come on people, sure they hyped it up and
let us down a little in the process. At the same time though, it is still the
hottest item out for the price in my book.
Other question being, is it a good replacement for what you have now? Depends, the Ultra 2 TNT cards are still a hot pick, and since the GeForce came out, they are kind of coming down in price. The Voodoo's are still sweet cards, and soon to be better eventually. If you have a TNT or other midrange card, this would be a worthwhile upgrade. I am happy as a pig in shit with this card, and so far the only complaint I have is the damn fan. Had that not crapped out on me, or been so puny, this would have gotten a 6 out of 5 score!
