I conducted my overlocking
experiments using an Intel Pentium III 450 Mhz. The Pentium III 450 will easily
make to 600 Mhz on an ABIT BH6 or an ABIT BE6 using 2.1 volt core voltage. On
the Soltek SL-67B it overclocked quite easily. The only speed that gave me any
problems were the 600 Mhz setting. While the system booted into Windows, it
couldn't make it through a complete run of Winstone 99 benchmark suite. If I
could adjust the core voltage, I'm almost certain that it would be able to
complete a Winstone 99 run.
Since this motherboard is missing a 124 Mhz speed
setting, the only way I could overclock was either using a 112 Mhz bus speed,
for a yield of 504 Mhz, or a 133 Mhz bus speed for a yeild of 600 Mhz. Since 600
mhz wasn't completely stable, I was stuck at 504 mhz.
At that speed, the board performed flawlessly. Never once did it become unstable. Stability is determined by running the entire Winbench 99 suite at least 5 times. I tortured this motherboard by running the suite for 10 hours non-stop. Stability is definitely top notch on this baby. The inability to adjust the core voltage is quite disappointing, but Soltek's new SL-67EB+, supposedly gives you that ability. We will definitely try to get one of those for some review action.
Performance
Performance was determined by running the Winstone 99 suite at least five times, and averaging the top three scores.
The Soltek's performance is right on par with any other mobo out there. Speed differences are very close between motherboards nowadays, so they only thing you are left comparing are features and stability both overclocked and not.
Conclusion
Although the Soltek SL-67B is missing features like the inability to adjust the core voltage, and a completely BIOS configurable CPU setup, it doesn't mean it's not a top notch quality product. In both overlocked and non-overclocked modes, this board exhibited exceptional stability, giving much higher priced motherboards a run for their money. This motherboard should be on the shopping list of people who are looking to save a few bucks but need a great motherboard, or people who don't care about overlocking too much. It's exceptional stability, good design, and it's killer price make this board worth every penny.
