Here we get to the heart of it all. Is it worth the extra mulla to grab this beasty. Intel's sink did allow me to clock the 550e Slot 1 up to 840mhz at rated 1.65v. But being the hardware freaks we are, damn straight we wanted the bigger one. Not only could we still clock up to 840, but check the temps....
Now, granted the difference is not what would be expected, but think about the environment. Room temp was at a constant 72-73 degrees Fahrenheit. System specs are as follows...
Processor
Intel Pentium III 550E @ 840 Mhz Memory
64 Megs PC-133 SDRAM Hard Drive
Western Digital Expert 18 Gig Video Card
Elsa Erazor X2 GeForce DDR
Were all mounted in a case soon to be reviewed by yours truly from AMK Services in Canada (thanks guys!!). Now OC'd to damn near 300mhz over rated speed, rated voltage, with Seti, MotherBoard Monitor, and Photo Impact all chewing away and still only running 5 deg over room temp is outstanding to say the least. Not to mention, sometimes that 8 degree difference between stock and after market is all it takes for a good OC to put that skip back in your step.
Is it worth that hard earned jack to throw down and order one? Yes for two reasons, first it is a kick ass cooler sure to perform and draw attention. Second, check the interview done with Todd, owner operator of CoolerGuys.Com and you will know why any gear purchased from these folks is worth it's weight in gold. Thanks again Todd for your time, putting up with our dead asses, and the cool toys to play with!!
