So far we have had the opportunity to
review two types of authentication technologies, optical and capacitive. In
terms of user friendliness and ease of access, the optical mouse from Umatch was
preferred. With the FingerTIP sensor Siemens have a very unique, and accurate
means of authenticating a users fingerprint. The sensor is more difficult to
fool because it relies upon electrical capacitance to generate the fingerprint
images. Additionally, the sensor takes up almost no room, and is much more
durable than an optical sensor could be (in terms of misarranged optics from a
drop). While you are much more likely to see the fingertip sensor appear on a
laptop, or medical equipment, proper training is important to its successful
use.
Thus, in terms of the Biometric
technologies contained within this mouse, we would have to say that Siemens have
done a top-notch job. In terms of the comfort of the mouse they have brought to
market just a fairly average design. Users accustomed to a very ergonomic
Logitech mice might be apprehensive about moving towards the Siemens
design.
However that aside, the software package
offers some comprehensive security capabilities for the home computer, office
computer, or network administrators private Quake III "server." Whatever the
use, with biometric authentication in the picture the security of a
computer system is much easier to ensure.
