One of the neatest features of the FinePix6900Z is the support for real time
video out. If you happen to be equipped with a television, monitor, or VIVO video
card it is quite simple to hook up the 6900Z and watch in real time what the
camera is seeing. The included video cable need only be connected to the
camera (by the USB and AC-adpator port) and then anything seen through the
viewfinder is transferred to the TV or monitor for instant
viewing.
Novelty and photo shoots aside, this live image
feature can have some very useful applications - either in recording short
movies around the office, or as a high resolution web cam
for videoconferencing.
Screen quality was a bit blocky while in use, but once an
image has been snapped the higher resolution picture is previewed as it would
normally be seen. The video-out feature is also really useful for previewing groups of photos with a two or three people. The images can be scrutinized
on the television in real time, and their fate decided instantly.
Conclusions
While we have a few sticking points with the 6900Z, all in all we
were very impressed with its performance and indeed the technology it
contains. The SuperCCD sensor was able to capture very high resolution
images with no noticeable pixelation, or jaggedness around curved
lines. From a users standpoint the operation of the camera was very
intuitive and easy to quickly get a handle upon.
Image quality is the most important quality of a camera and the FinePix6900Z proved itself
well during our use of it. We didn't just run out and take a few snap shots,
but rather put it through the paces of our hectic work schedule. To
give you some idea of just how busy we are these days, in the time we
tested the 6900Z we probably shot about 500 images on it. During this
real-world use of the camera we did notices a few areas where the 6900Z was
than ideal, but this mainly centered around its ability to do macro photography
- some thing we tend to do a lot of.
Cameras are really products of the people who use them, and it is very
difficult to accurately cover every possible use that you, the
consumer, may have. Our hope is that we have given you enough of a feel for
the FinePix6900Z to judge for yourself if it meets your needs and requirements.
If it does indeed, than I would have no problem recommending anyone
consider it.
