CipherVideo and ColorAmp
The CipherVideo
processor
is responsible for formatting incoming
video so that it displays correctly on a computer monitor. For example,
a television signal (from a video-in port) must be de-interlaced (the process
of merging video information into coherent individual frames) for display
on a computer. On the other hand, DVD video requires a different set of
treatments and considerations. The Cipher is XGI's video processing solution for
the Volari range, and contains proprietary solutions for rendering high-quality
video.
XGI's
ColorAmp Engine is apparently an on-the-fly colour
and brightness optimizer for 3D and 2D images. According to the white paper for
the technology, ColorAmp will provide extra saturation for onscreen colours, and
lighten 3D images to increase viewability. It does this while retaining
a set of custom settings for various sources, such as DVDs and
games, and allowing user customization also.
The lightening feature, dubbed the 'Intelli-Vision
Engine,' sounds like an automatic Gamma adjustment feature. As for the colour
saturation provided by the ColorAmp engine, XGI made these screenshots
available, so judge for yourself.
