Quake III Arena is a First Person Shooter (FPS)
that revolutionized gaming as we know it. Using multiple light sources and
having graphics textures that can fill videocards, even after 3 years it's still
able to bring a cutting edge system to its knees.
Like we saw in RTCW, the resolution 1024x768 has now become all CPU limited,
the GeForce3 Ti500 and the Radeon 8500's retail and OEM perform almost identical
to each other.
At the higher resolutions, in demo001 again the GeForce3
Ti500 and the Radeon 8500's perform very close to each other. In the nv15demo,
it looks like the T&L in the radeon is just a tad more efficient when the
cards are under stress.
Serious Sam 2 is a game that uses OpenGL and is a
little more advanced than the now retired Quake III Arena. Higher numbers denote
faster frames per second (FPS), and hence, better performance.
Serious Sam 2 is more of a overall system benchmark then
anything else. It has a hard time differentiating the GeForce3 Ti500 and the
Radeon 8500's.
It was horrible running these benchmarks at this resolution. Not even the
mighty GeForce3 Ti500 or Radeon 8500 could pull decent frame rates.
