Albatron's Latest Geforce 6150 Motherboard Rocks AM2
Hello,
While universities and colleges gear up for a brand new semester in just a few short weeks, the
internet too always seems to swell in unison... it's a seasonal
shift that marks the starting point of a long line of impending videocard
releases, new CPUs, chipsets and all manner of technologies. Fun!
PCSTATS 221st Newsletter issue starts off with Geforce
6150-based AM2 Albatron KM51PV-AM2 motherboard. The benchmarks tell the
whole story on this one, but the real nice part is that it supports dual
monitors without having to install a videocard! After this, OCZ's PC2-7200
RAM for overclockers gets a good workout on the test bench, followed by
the ASrock AM2V890-VSTA motherboard. This board is based on the VIA K8T890 chipset, and manages to hold its own. Surprising, if we consider its mainstream breeding. Rounding off this short and sweet
edition is a really handy Weekly Tech Tip on the topic of BitTorrent, and
reviews of the Intel Pentium D 940, Seasonic 650W Energy+ powersupply, and
a Beginners Guide to setting up Dual Boot 32/64-bit Operating Systems.
Enjoy!
Thanks for reading! Max Page Editor-in-Chief - PCSTATS
The nVIDIA GeForce 6150 is the best of the bunch when it comes to integrated
graphics chipsets on the AMD Athlon 64 platform.
The Albatron KM51PV-AM2 is one such microATX motherboard which fulfills multiple usage roles. The
KM51PV-AM2 is based on the nVIDIA GeForce 6150 and nForce 430
chipsets, and the bargain basement prices of the AMD Sempron 64-bit
processor are genuinely the best suited for it. Albatron's KM51PV-AM2
motherboard has six USB2.0 jacks at the rear of the board,
along with 5.1 channel audio, Gigabit Ethernet, and both DVI
and analog video jacks support multi-monitor video output.

Overclocking is a ton of fun if you're interested in
getting into it.. but ask any seasoned overclocker about the importance of
good memory and they'll talk your ear off. OCZ's 2GB PC2-7200 Platinum XTC
SLI Ready memory offers users an interesting mix of high speeds and low
latency. The 2GB kit has
been rated to run up to 900 MHz while keeping CAS Latency timings of
4-4-3-15. The memory requires a stock voltage of 2.1V. The DDR-2 modules
come wrapped in OCZ's XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) "heatspreaders", and
it looks like the entire package has been deep-fried in the chrome-plater!

In
this review of the ASrock AM2V890-VSTA motherboard we'll be looking at how
the VIA K8T890 handles itself around the socket AM2 Athlon64 FX-62
processor. The ASRock AM2V890-VSTA Socket AM2 motherboard is the first
motherboard to cross PCSTATS' test bench based on the VIA K8T890 chipset.
This compact ATX motherboard has four 240 pin DDR2 memory slots which
accommodate up to 8GB of DDR-2 memory. Among the list of standard features
on the motherboard are 7.1 channel audio, 10/100 network and dual PCI
Express graphics slots - though SLI is not supported.Continue Here>>
In this short guide, PCSTATS is going to show
you how to go about creating your dual 64-bit/32-bit
Windows XP installation. This allows you to mix and match the two
operating systems, avoiding software failure and discovering which is best for each
application and game. In order for this guide to work, we've got to
make a couple of assumptions: number one, that you have a 64-bit capable
processor (either AMD Athlon 64, Opteron or EMT-64 enabled Intel Pentium 4/D/EE) and a working
32-bit installation of Windows XP...Continue Here>>
The Intel Pentium D
940 processor is the latest victim, errr.... component to pass through
the PCSTATS test labs. Built on Intel's 65 nanometer manufacturing process
and with two physical processing cores running at 3.2 GHz
each, backed up by 2MB of L2 cache, the socket 775 chip
certainly makes quite a splash. Each core on the Pentium D 940 has
access to its own L1 and L2 cache memory, 16KB and 2MB respectively. Both
class of processor run on a 800MHz front side bus like traditional
Prescott Pentium 4s, and are currently only supported with DDR II memory.Continue Here>>
Seasonic's flagship power supply this summer is the S12 Energy Plus
SS-650HT 650W model. The
SS-650HT is SLI certified, and that itself should be
a sign of what's to come. It is fully ATX 2.0 compatible and has an energy efficiency
rating above 80% and there
are four +12V rails that can each deliver a maximum of 18Amps
, with total power output of 455W! We'll be
looking at the S12 closely to see if it fills the role from a computer
enthusiasts perspective; be it multiple videocards, quietness, efficiency or
whatever. Continue Here>>

PCstats Weekly Tech Tips: Azureus BitTorrent Client Encryption Technique |
|
|
BitTorrent (BT)is one of the most
useful protocols for finding and transferring files between
peers, however it might be a bit too successful. Many ISP's
(at least in North America) now throttle BT traffic to keep it
from eating up too much bandwidth. That can slow data
transfers to a handful of KB/s. Azureus (https://azureus.sourceforge.net
) is one of the more popular bittorrent clients available, and it comes with a very handy feature - the ability to encrypt bt traffic! that means the isp can no longer throttle traffic because it doesn't know what the packets are for.
To use this feature, you'll need to install the Azureus client, and after the program has loaded click on the "Tools" menu then "Options...". From there expand the "Connections" options, click on "Transport Encryption" and in the main window check the "Require encrypted transport" box. Leave the "Minimum encryption transport" at stock (RC4) and also check the "Allow non-encrypted outgoing connections if encrypted connection attempts fails" and "Allow non-encrypted incoming connections" boxes so you can connect to non-encrypted traffic too.
Once you've made those changes, click the save button and you're all set! From now on even if your ISP throttles BitTorrent traffic, the encryption will allow your data to run at full speed. =)
Please note that Azureus is a bit of a memory hog, and requires Java to function.
