As
you saw in the benchmark results there's not much difference between
Intel H67 / P67 platform performance in office
oriented applications, so it stands to reason that PC shoppers on a tight
budget would be well advised to consider the entry level Intel
H67 platform and save a few dollars on the graphics front. The Intel
H67 all but omits overclocking options, except for the CPUs natural TurboBoost self overclocking feature,
so that's something to consider as well.
On the whole, the ECS H67H2-M, Intel H67 base motherboard is a great
platform for budget-minded workstation PCs in an office or school environment.
Dual monitors are supported over any two of the boards four display outputs and with a good Sandy
Bridge processor locked into the driving seat there's no handicap to content creation
or productivity applications for the most part.
For gamers the simple answer is to set aside some budget
for a discreet mainstream videocard. With support upto DX10.1 this board
doesn't have the stuff to deal with the latest video games on IGP graphics alone. Overclocking
options are practically non-existant on most of the H67 platforms, including this
board as far as PCSTATS could tell.
As is usually the case with IGP motherboards, it
all depends on what you need the computer to do and how much you can afford to
spend in these poor economic times. The ECS H67H2-M makes for a very
well rounded, economical workstation or HTPC/media PC. Sandy Bridge has a lot of
benefit to offer and this is an affordable way to meet modest daily PC
needs.
If you're building a media center or home theatre
PC in particular, you'll find that the ECS H67H2-M motherboard is
well suited to meet those requirements with it's HDMI
/ Display Port outputs and hardware acceleration of video
transcoding. The ECS H67H2-M motherboard retails for about $125 CDN ($125 USD,
£80 GBP) so it offers quite a lot on the value front. As you've seen in the
benchmarks, the ECS H67H2-M is a compact motherboard that manages to live up to
Sandy Bridge's excellent performance reputation.
