IWill KK266 Plus Motherboard Review

Iwill's latest kick at the KT133A chipset is a surprising one. After all, why invest more time and effort into such an aging chipset? Their immensely popular KK266 line of motherboards has already won over the hearts of performance users and overclockers a like with it's superb performance, stability, and astonishing ability to reach ungodly bus speeds...

Whatever the reasons, the KK266Plus has the heredity to be one super fine motherboard, and since my KK266-R has become quite comfortable in its' Lian Li case, it won't be pried out without a serious fight! So place your bets, and let's see how the brothers-KK266 duke it out!

IWill KK266 Plus Motherboard

Like it's predecessor, the KK266Plus is based on VIA's immensely popular and well-performing KT133A chipset which supports the 133/266 MHz based Athlon processors we all know and love.

One of the reasons DDRAM has had such a poor time gaining a strong foothold in the marketplace was because of this chipset. At least, that was the case when DDR memory was still expensive. These days, Crucial is selling DDR for the same as SDRAM, but it's still nice to know that an SDRAM-base motherboard can give you 90% of the performance of a DDR one.

Ultra/100ATA support is taken care of thanks to VIA's 686B southbridge, and the KK266Plus-R model also comes equipped with a AMI RAID controller. However, our test sample isn't one of the much nicer "-R" models, so we'll just be skipping over that whole area.
