What can we say about the Duron 1 GHz?
For the price, it is really an awesome value and
an amazing little value processor! Usually for $90 CDN, you can't find something of quality,
but AMD proves everyone wrong with the Duron 1 GHz.
As you could see in the benchmarks, the
1 GHz Duron does very well in just about everything.
About the only thing we can complain about is that AMD has
stuck with the CPGA packaging instead of moving to the more durable OPGA. AMD has
also seen the fact that the 100 MHz FSB is crippling a very fast processor and
will up the bus speed to 133 MHz with the introduction of the 0.13 micron
Appaloosa Duron which is an excellent move.
As for overclocking, the Duron was up to the game, we were able to get the CPU
to run 44% faster then stock speeds! At 1.44 GHz the Duron simply chewed through
the benchmarks we threw at it with absolutely no problems!
If you're on a budget or perhaps want something
inexpensive until the 0.13 micron based Thoroughbred/Appaloosa based CPU's become available,
look no further then the 1 GHz Duron. There has never been so much performance in
a value processor!
