Visually the DVD-L100 offers a clear and defect free
image, presenting a rich and colourful image. If there were any dead or broken
pixels on the LCD this would have taken away from the viewing experience
significantly, so it reassuring to not find any. Image and picture controls are
fairly limited; consisting of a brightness wheel on the right hand side, and a
few other options accessible
through the remote only.
The setup menu enables the user to change the screen
characteristics from wide to pan & scan or letterbox. Audio controls are
limited by the content the publisher has placed on a particular DVD, but if you
fancy tinkering around with DTS, Dynamic Composition or enabling 2X audio scan the
options are there. Parental controls seem kind of silly on a machine I wouldn't
dream of putting in the hands of any kid... but if traveling with kids I could
see how this
may come in handy.
In general the remote gives user access to about eight
extra screen features, or short cuts, but since this is essentially a travellers
DVD play I don't think it would be really practical to use it most of the
time.

While features and shiny bits of metal will always get
our attention, it is the picture, and sound that we are really here for. Let's
have a look at how the DVD-L100 plays movies, and if it's up to snuff.
